The Gorsley based Ross Golf Club's annual nine holes mixed Eclectic Cup, which is open to all members, continues to grow in popularity attracting 35+ entrants each Tuesday late afternoon/early evening throughout the spring and summer seasons.
To further wet the players appetite their round, where the front and back nine holes are played alternately is followed by an eclectic supper extravaganza thanks to the Club's valued Caterer John Devine and his team. The Cup Champion is decided through a 'best of series' format where the top four performers in the four stages of six rounds of nine holes stableford golf each emerge to take part in the forthcoming Friday, September 12 final and dinner party celebration on the eve of the Club's Annual Knock-out Finals Day.
To date Ian Bennett and Simon Phillips have already booked their places in the final showdown having won stages 1 and 2 respectively.
To the delight of everyone, 12 years old Ross Junior, Harvey Gunn after winning both opening rounds in Stage 3 currently has a healthy lead in the race to join Ian and Simon. As club board course director 13 handicapper Antony Graham said 'In the circumstances it feels great to be outdriven off the tee by a 12 year old!'.
Harvey was just five years old and a pupil at Lea Primary School when the Ross Club's Assistant PGA Professional James Dobbs, who still coaches Harvey, brought 'Tri-Golf' processes to his cchool as part of a national campaign run by England Golf and to his credit, Harvey was hooked.
Harvey already boasts a 17 handicap and is part of Glos Golfing Union's under 14 Development squad which suggests that a really exciting and meaningful career associated with golf awaits him.
