Ross Rowing Club’s junior squad took Monmouth Regatta and Sprint by storm over the weekend, taking a huge haul of no less than seventeen event wins as their athletes dominated most of the junior categories. Opposing clubs and schools were left shell-shocked by the technical quality and power of the Ross squad.

On Saturday, nine wins were recorded over the testing 1500m regatta course as the fitness of the Ross squad enabled them to pull away from their opposition and win by some considerable margins.

The sprint event on Sunday was threatened by thunderstorms for most of the day, and there were torrential downpours as the Ross junior rowers amassed a further eight wins with some thrilling finishes which triggered vociferous support from the banks.

Erica Hermon, Head Coach J12-14, was particularly pleased with the performances of the younger scullers. She said: “Given that many of them started with us only last year, the sheer quality of technique was very impressive and testament to the great work that the coaches do at the club.”

Ross Rowing Club’s junior and senior squads will be in action next at Hereford regatta this weekend, June 2nd and 3rd.
