League leaders Lye were the visitors to The Park in the latest Worcester League Division Three clash on Saturday 20th July.

Muggy and overcast conditions greeted the sides with Ross opting to bat first, in order to get the best use of a very dry wicket.

Evans and Tiffen opened the Ross innings and got off to a swift start taking 13 off the opening three overs. However, disaster soon struck with Evans being run out for 2 at the wicket-keeper's end after a horrendous mix-up with Tiffen. Warwick followed three balls later, wafting loosely at wide ball outside his off stump and soon Ross were 13-2. Hiram was dismissed for 14 after chopping on to his stumps off Riaz and this left Ross at 47-3.

47-3 soon became 52-4, as Tiffen was snared down the leg-side after brilliant work from Dhadwal behind the stumps. Porter and King began to mount a recovery, and with the pitch becoming increasingly two-paced, runs were becoming increasingly hard to come by. King was the next to depart for a patient 25 off 64 balls and he was soon followed back to the pavilion by Porter who had compiled 40 runs in a particularly stoic manner off of 85 balls.

A late flurry of runs from Mair saw Ross reach 159-8 off their allotted 50 overs, but this was a very poor batting display from a talented batting line up.

However bad a situation a team finds itself in, the sight of a hearty tea and large plates often puts players in a much more positive frame of mind. And when one can fit eight sandwiches comfortably onto a plate with enough room for cakes and other sides, one soon has time to reflect and realise that the situation isn't as bad as it might seem.
