Headteacher of John Kyrle High School, Nigel Griffiths, along with pupils and teachers at John Kyrle were all delighted with the news that a Year 7 student, Abi Agami, was so successful in the British Shooting Schools Competition, as reported in last week’s Ross Gazette.

Abi has been shooting since she was eight-years-old, and for the last 18 months has been training with the 2012 Olympic Pentathlon coach, achieving fantastic results.

Last week’s event consisted of 20 shots at a distance of 10m, with Abi scoring a personal best of 167 and qualifying in fifth place (of 48) for the shoot off final to win a place at the National Finals in Stoke Mandeville. This is a huge achievement for the young student.

She is currently awaiting official confirmation from British Shooting, but it looks as if Abi has qualified for Stoke Mandeville on the January 16th, and this would be an amazing opportunity if she learns that she is able to participate.

As further confirmation of her skill, Abi recently shot two qualifying rounds and was called to shoot on the Commonwealth Range at Bisley. Out of 86 competitors of adults and children (Abi was the youngest) she was placed ninth.

Mr Griffiths said: “It is a phenomenal achievement for Abi to have got so far in the schools event as many of the schools competing run shoot training or have close associations with local shooting clubs.”
