Many of the Ross sports teams enjoyed success this weekend.

RUGBY

Ross 1sts have reached the final of the Forest of Dean combination cup after narrowly beating Westbury 16-14 on Wednesday, April 20th.

In their last game of the season, Ross RFC 2nds entertained Drybrook in a friendly, but were beaten 17-37. It has been a reasonable season for Ross but they have been let down on many occasion from the opposition in not being able to raise a side. The Drop Inn man of the match was captain Pete Jarvis.

In another match, Ross ended their league campaign with a win of 26-17 against Broad Plain, exacting revenge for an opening day defeat by their opponents and ending the season a creditable fourth in Gloucester Division two.

FOOTBALL

Following two recent home defeats that spelled the derailment of their title challenge, the Ross Junior Girls Under 12’s returned to winning ways against a much improved Lad’s Club Vixens Under 12’s outfit.

The under 9s Colts continue with their winning streak by securing a new kit from sponsor No3 Restaurant. When approached by the club, Darren and Charlotte did not hesitate in sponsoring the team. Darren said "We saw it as a great opportunity to further support the local community in which we run our restaurant and in particular the football club which our son Euan enjoys playing."

GOLF

Ross Golf club recently partook in the Annual Spring Medal competition, the largest Pro-Am National event in the UK and sponsored by the Lombard Financial Group. The event is always well supported, as it provides the winner with the opportunity to play in a Regional Competition in June with his Club Professional.

On this occasion, on a day when good scoring was reflected in the standard scratch being 74 against its normal par 72, with 111 members taking part, 20 handicapper Tim Kefalas delivered one of his best rounds ever. His nett 69 score means that he has earned a day partnering Head Professional Tim Hall at the prestigious Burnham & Berrow Golf Course in Somerset.

The South Herefordshire seniors mid week medal attracted an entry of over 55 members. The seniors team returned to winning ways beating Painswick 3.5 to 2.5 in a close encounter.

SHORT MAT BOWLS

The short mat bowling season drew to a close with the annual Herefordshire Short Mat Bowling Association presentation evening held at the Larruperz Centre. League and competition winners from tournaments across the year were presented with their awards by President Norman Allen and Chairman Jamie Harris and the attendees then enjoyed a buffet supper.

RUNNING

On Sunday, April 17th, Monross-Trailblazer members took part in the Spirit of Monmouth organised race; The Kymin Dash. The Kymin Dash is a challenging 7 mile race straight up to the top of the Kymin above Monmouth, and then back along the old railway track following the river wye.

Meanwhile, other Monross members took part in the Magnificent 7, organised by the Ledbury Harriers and starts from Eastnor castle. Again this is a very rural 7 mile run, which takes you up through woodland onto the Obelisk. Richard Bevan came a strong 8th overall out of a very competitive field. Laura Lelievre came in soon after with a good, strong position and within the top 10 ladies.

RALLY

TWO weeks of hard work by Bob Morgan paid off when he took the Winner Garage Cinderford backed Skoda Fabia Evo to an excellent class win on last weekends Somerset Stages and finishing 14th overall.

GYMNASTICS

Hosting the Championships at the Forest of Dean Gymnastics Centre at Five Acres, Coleford, 17 members of the Club’s Mini Development Squads took part winning six medals, three silver and three bronze. The young girls look set to continue the Club’s long history of success.
