ROSS registered another win on the road last Saturday, against Bristol Aero; it was never a convincing performance but the win kept them in the hunt for that third place finish with one game to go.

Ross started the game with intent, from the kick off they looked to move the ball, with both forwards and backs getting their hands on the ball early; twice in the first ten minutes Ross with some great passing and movement got outside the home defence and it was only some great scramble defence that denied first Billy Hambling then Huw Bellamy opening the scoring.

However, it was third time lucky for Ross, some quick hands again put Dan Field clear and he cut inside the scrable defence to open the scoring with a great try. Thai Hayward nailed the touchline conversion and Ross were 7-0 ahead. This seemed to jolt the home side into action, and their bigger forwards started to get their hands on he ball and for the next two quarters they were the dominant team on the front foot.

Their driving lineout was their key weapon and they used it to good effect. However, for all their possession and territory they could only register one score late in the first half and as the game entered a nervy last quarter Ross had managed to hold onto a slender 7-5 lead.

Ross held their nerve and as the home forwards tired the Ross forwards came back into the game, firstly with some dominant scrimmaging and then with bal in hand in the loose. Chris Price nearly extended the lead but was held up over the line, but with Ross now camped in the home twenty two a score was inevitable and it was the scrum half Ben Element who finally got the try darting over after some great work from the forwards.

Ross had time to add another once again a great scrum on the visitors five yard line saw Bristol under huge pressure. The ball squirted out the side of the scrum and Ben Element was the first to react, scooping up the loose ball to score.

The final whistle sounded and Ross, after weathering the storm, ended up comfortable 19-5 winners.

The Bosse interspices man of the match was Ben Element for his crucial two scores. Ross 1sts have two home games left; on Tuesday, April 19th there is a Forest combination cup semi final against Westbury with a 6.30pm kick off at Greytree then on Saturday, April 23rd there is the last league game against Broad plain at Greytree with a 3pm kick off.
