Ross U14s travelled to South Gloucestershire based Frampton Cotterell. The home side started the strongest and ran in the first try of the match after only a few minutes, this followed some missed tackles by the visitors.

Following this early score the Ross blue and whites began to compete more for the ball. Some fabulous line speed in defence and then much improved tackling meant that Ross were able, more often, to force the home opposition onto the back foot. Flynn Piper’s (Lock) work in the lineout meant that Frampton’s lineouts were not secure; with the visitors winning a good number of Frampton’s throws. Rucks became more successful for Ross when supporting players pressurised back ball and secured possession for the blues. There were some brilliant gains made from forwards such as Flynn Ruddiforth (Loose Head Prop), Josh Simms (Tight Head Prop) and James Aston (Flanker); with George Phillips (Lock) really working hard for the whole game in all areas.

Emerging dominance led to Ross being able to move the ball through the centres and out to the wings. Callum Coe (Outside Centre) finished Ross’ first try with a magnificent run from around the half way line.

The half time break brought further excellent work from Ross and, following some strong running in the backs and great support play and mauling from the forwards, Ross were able to move ahead with a second team try finished by Cameron Ogilvie (Inside Centre).

A third try for Ross, again following great running from the backs, was finished by Louis Trotman (Wing). Towards the end of the match, some increased pressure exerted by Frampton saw them have a try claim disallowed through being held up by the stout Ross defence. Unfortunately, Ross saw their superb Full Back (Ollie Cross), who had displayed many fine defensive tackles and great surging runs, take a knock to the head and he had to be replaced.

This keenly contested match ended with the visitors being 5-15 victors. The Ross boys showed what it means to be team-mates and to work as one – this should help them move through to further success in the future.
