Ross seconds entertained Cheltenham Civil Service seconds at Greytree on Saturday, October 5th and were emphatic winners 49-0.

Ross, led by captain Steve White, played some superb rugby throughout with their lines outs being very effective and often winning lineouts against the head thanks to Ian Davies jumping at No.2.

The scrums were a lot more even but Civil Service couldn’t break the Ross defence and the game was played in the majority of Services half.

Josh Morgan was first to score for Ross, soon followed by a brace of tries from TC Leach playing at 10 and a matching brace from winger Bas Parker. Ross galloped to a 25 point lead at the interval.

They never took the foot off the gas and were professional throughout the second half. No.8 Dan Gould scored a great solo effort from the half way line and centre Rich Johnson was on hand to score after a flowing Ross move which saw a few offloads to supporting players and Skylar Lilly convert. Skylar, playing at nine, was a constant pain in Services’ side, breaking away from scrums and getting over the gain line, and from one such break he found himself clear to score. TC got his hat-trick of tries at the death, which Wayne Williams converted.

If Ross had their kicking boots on they could have scored a further ten points with conversions.

The game was played in great spirit and both players and spectators were treated to some excellent rugby. The Derek Hayward Esq man of the match was lock, Craig Beaumont, who was back in a Ross shirt after eight years. His tackling and ball in hand running was sublime.

There is no fixture this week for Ross seconds, but the following week they entertain Smiths seconds at home.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
