A COOL finish from Dylan Hart and a 35-yard screamer from George Brand put Newent Town through to the semi-final of the Uhlsport Hellenic Supplementary Cup with a 2-1 home win over Marlow Reserves on Saturday.

In beautiful sunshine heralding the arrival of Spring, Hart struck just before half-time to give the Daffs a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Thames valley visitors tested Newent keeper Leyton Joyce with a free-kick from the edge of the box shortly after the restart, but he made a good save.

And mid-way through the second half, Brand let fly from distance to double the lead with a contender for goal of the season.

The Blues' Sam Green then popped up to pull one back a minute from normal time, making for a nervy six minutes of injury time, but the Daffs held on to go through to face Banbury United at home on Saturday, March 14.

Elsewhere, it was all-square at 1-1 at half-time as Lydbrook Athletic hosted Frampton 2nds, before the floodgates opened with six more goals, the hosts running out 5-3 winners.

Blaine Smith, Finlay Morris, James Matthews, Willard Mutsira and Jayden Tribbick hit the target to secure victory for the Wyesiders, lifting them above Frampton to 11th on goal difference.

But bottom side Mitcheldean lost out 3-0 at home to fellow Foresters Bream Amateurs.

Goals from Ben Hall and Connor Watkins fired Howle Hill to a 2-0 win at Elwood, leapfrogging Broadwell to fourth in North Gloucestershire Premier after the latter’s 1-0 home loss to Milkwall.

Lydbrook 2nds also kept up their push for promotion from NG1 with a 2-0 win away to Harrow Hill 2nds, substitutes Jonathan Griffiths and Carl Stevens the marksmen, as the win put them three points behind second-placed Redbrook Rovers.

Ruardean United led Sling 2-1 at half-time at St Briavels playing fields thanks to strikes from Henry Godwin and Alex Rowles, but missed out 3-2 after a red card for Gavin Kyte, while Ruardean Hill Rangers 2nds were also downed 3-0 at home to Yorkley.

On Sunday, Ross Women returned to home action for the first time since December 7.

The venue had to be switched to Worrall Hill recreation ground in Lydbrook, but Ross produced a thrilling performance to secure a 5-4 win over Dudley, with victory lifting them above the visitors to fourth in the Mid West Counties League.

Hollie Mace gave Ross the lead from a free-kick before heading home her second from a Shannon Parton corner.

The Robins then fought back to make it 2-2 at half time, however.

But Ross came out strongly in the second half and goals from Lauren Creed, Millie Malsom and Kaci Johnson put them in control 5-2.

Dudley then scored twice in injury time to set up a nervy finish, but Ross held on for a big win.

Fixtures this Saturday (March 7) include – Newent Town v Alcester, Ruardean Hill v Filton, Mitcheldean v Lydbrook, Longhope v Soudley, Howle Hill v Broadwell 2nds (Weston), Huntley v Woolaston.

Ross Juniors Women host Evesham United on Sunday.
