NEWENT RFC hosted Longlevens in a squad match warm-up on Saturday, but it was the Gloucester visitors who took the victory 33-17.

Ross RFC were only trailing 5-0 at half-time away to Brockworth in their friendly, but ran out of steam before going down 36-0.

But the club enjoyed a fantastic family fun day on Sunday, starting with a first junior training session for U6s right through to U17s.

Wyeranch hosted a social 5k run followed by complimentary ice baths and good coffee before a Ladies Touch Tournament, food, drinks, kids’ entertainment and lots more.

Newent 1sts host Bromsgrove at Cinderford RFC on Friday night (7.45pm), while the Phoenix host Luctonians 3rds at The Rec on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, five Gloucester-Hartpury players have been selected by Wales for the WXV Global Series.

Kate Williams, named as co-captain, is joined by Lleucu George, Hannah Dallavalle, Nel Metcalfe and Jorja Aiono in Sean Lynn’s 39-player squad for matches in Cardiff against South Africa and the USA and Japan in Tokyo.

Fly-half George, first capped at 17, has been with Gloucester-Hartpury since 2019, having grown up on a Pembrokeshire dairy farm.

The Swansea-born 29-year-old centre Dallavalle began playing rugby aged seven at Crynant RFC, and first capped by Wales in 2015 has since gone on to make more than 60 international appearances.

Wing and full-back Metcalfe was born in Bangor in 2004, and played for Nant Conwy before breaking into the senior Wales side against the USA aged 18.

She joined Gloucester-Hartpury in 2024 and quickly made an impression, including scoring a hat-trick against Harlequins.

Swansea-born flanker Williams was raised in New Zealand, and played for North Harbour and the Blues and also served in the Royal New Zealand Navy.

She joined Gloucester-Hartpury in 2023 and earned her first Wales cap that year.

Aiono is the newest Wales international, breaking into the senior side during this year’s Six Nations campaign.
