Ross travelled to table toppers Old Colstonians on Saturday, February 11th, looking to strengthen their promotion bid and put a dent in Colstonians’ unbeaten league campaign.

It was the hosts who started the strongest moving the ball quickly away from contact and stretching the Ross defence. Their defence held firm however, they fell foul of the referee’s whistle and Colstonians were able to take an early 6-0 lead with two of the penalties successfully converted by their number 10.

Colstonians then added a try after a Ross fumble on the home side’s 22 dropped into the arms of the Colstonians’ centre, who had the legs to run in the score from 80 yards. The conversion was successful and after 20 minutes Ross were staring down the ‘barrel of a gun’ at 13-0 behind.

It would have been easy to give up at this point but Ross slowly started to drag themselves back into the game. The pack began to carry the ball hard into the home team’s defence. Their rucking was abrasive and Ross began to exert some dominance up front. Whilst the home defence held firm they did concede some penalties and it was from these infringements that Ross mounted their comeback.
