SEVENTEEN MonRoss Trailblazers beat a path to Bearwood north of Hereford for the third Herefordshire & Borders Summer X-Country League race.

Rob Nicholls finished sixth out of 204 in 30 minutes 35 seconds to take the men's over-35 category, with Croft Ambrey's Sam Juson again unstoppable at the front of the field, crossing over a minute and a half ahead in 27.23.

Fastest woman just a place and 10 seconds behind Rob was Rhianwedd Price of Builth & District RC.

Gavin Jones was ninth in 31.23 and also making the top 10, Trailblazer club mate Kieron Brown was just behind in 32.03.

Grant White came home 13th and third over-35 in 32.21, with club mate Jacke McBride two places behind in 32.52.

Next Blazer was Richard Bevan in 36.38 (45th), with the club's first woman home Megan Gore in 37.02 (51st), placing ninth fastest female.

Other times were Rob Potter 37.21, Andrew Wright 37.40, Andrew Stephens 37.56, Gary Griffiths 38.37, Rachael Aitken 38.51, Vanessa Ward 40.07, Graham Bell 40.46, Trina Sami 41.26, Matthew Webb 48.18 and Helena Reay 48.19.

The first three Blazers' men and women also finished third out of 24 in the team event.

And with Rob Nicholls currently fifth and Gavin Jones sixth in the overall series, plus the team third, there's everything to race for in the final race at Newton Court next Wednesday night (July 22).

Elsewhere, runners have also turned out in several recent 10k races.

Gary Griffiths took on the Gloucester 10K and came home 141st out of 807 overall in 46.28.

He followed it up a week later by racing the Mic Morris 10k road race from Blaenavon to Pontypool Park, a net-downhill course great for fast times, where he placed 91st and 15th fastest over-40 in 42.01.

Tony Davies also ran the route as part of a longer run, crossing in 60.34.

Trina Sami took on the Evesham 10k, a flat multi-terrain race beside the River Avon, finishing 47.40 and fourth in age, smashing seven minutes off her previous PB.

A week later she was in action again, this time at the Ludlow 10k, completing the course in 55.04 for 27th out of 145, sixth fastest woman and third in age category.

On Saturday, in the sizzling heat, Emily Harrison took on the Black Mountains Half Marathon organised by Limitless Trails.

Starting at Longtown and passing through Llantony Priory twice, the 13.1-mile route included 3,600ft elevation.

Meanwhile, Blazers have now opened entries for their woodland and riverside Blaze the Biblins race on October 11.

Last year’s event was cancelled owing to Storm Amy bringing down trees.

Saturday’s Ross-on-Wye weekly 5k parkrun saw 144 runners putting their best foot forward, with Jonathan Scott of Belgrave Harriers first home in 17.18, and Helen Brown fastest woman in a PB 21.37.
