Ross Rowing Club’s Senior and Junior rowers made the short trip to Monmouth on Sunday to take part in the first competitive event of the winter. They came away away with six wins and a coveted pennant for an outstanding sculling performance from one the top junior women scullers in the region.

Ben Clatworthy, Jess Taylor and Lara Banks-Martin all had wins in single sculls. There were also three wins in double sculls from Emily Hermon and Yasmin Howe, Ben Heyes and Elic Wales, and Lara Banks-Martin and Daisy Phillips.

Lara also secured a Head Pennant for achieving the fastest women’s single scull time of the day, despite being only 15 years old. She posted an extremely quick 8m 25s for the 2200m course.

Lead Coach for the J12-14 age-group, Erica Hermon, was particularly pleased with the excellent performances in smaller boats, remarking: “We are focusing more and more on training our youngsters to be proficient in small boats, and it is very rewarding when we see this effort starting to pay off at competitive events”.

A busy Autumn lies ahead for the Ross Club’s rowers, with trips to Evesham, London, Gloucester and Henley planned for the next two months.
