THE first major trophy of the Ross Golf Club 2014 season was decided when 44 members took part in the final of the Barnfield Trophy Stableford event, with those taking part having qualified from earlier rounds played throughout the winter months.

The 17 handicapper Stuart Jones will have been delighted that he played the most effective golf of his round during his opening holes because he started from the 10th hole and the back nine holes at the Ross Club's tree-lined course are the more demanding. With five pars and just four dropped shots Stuart amassed a highly impressive 23 points at the half way stage. With 18 points scored on the remaining nine holes he will have been fully satisfied with his 41 points scorecard. For this he was able to thank some consistent driving off the tees and being an experienced landscape gardener. Stuart's opponents may have considered that this gave him an edge in the reading of the greens, as they proved to be quite tricky that day.
