The final two weeks of Ross cycling club's regular time trial season has seen performances improve steadily, culminating in Will Bevan taking Alan Cook's crown as holder of the course record on Old Gore.

Bevan produced a stunning performance in windy and drizzly conditions clocking 22mins 35secs, beating the previous record by two seconds but suggesting in better conditions he is showing the type of form that could lower that time further. Unfortunately though that will now need to wait until next season as the final regular time trial of the season was the handicap event on the Walford course last Thursday night. A great event that due to a time handicapping process based on riders' times from previous events during the year should give everyone an equal chance to win.

Some would say that certain club members strategically manage their efforts in order to finish with a flourish at the end of the season but the wise veterans of the handicap committee are able to see through such bluff and provide everyone with a fair crack of the whip.

Top placed rider was John Airey with the ride of the season for him winning in a handicap time of 19mins 20secs. Matt Fallon, the club's number one junior rider continues to show consistent improvement finishing second with 20mins 45secs and third place Ross rider Mark Herriott finished in 21mins 12secs just one second ahead of Adam Spector fresh from a 12 hour endurance event the week before.

Thanks must go to all those riders and supporters that have made this summer's regular time trial season a success. It was good to see visiting riders Chris Wood, Jason Streather and Ben Osborn, as well as some regular friends from the Forest of Dean Club, make a total of 27 riders taking part last week. The end of time trial season doesn't mean the end of racing for Ross cyclists as hill climb and sprint events start in earnest this week. The long hill climb to Ruardean is a favourite for many and starts at 7pm on Thursday evening with signing on at 6.45pm at the Kerne Bridge car park.
