EIGHTEEN-year-old Charlie Bowden proved a hot shot by winning three bronze medals in the 10m Air Rifle event while representing England at the GB Junior International at National Small-bore Rifle Association’s Bisley range.
Competing for the England Small-bore Shooting Union (ESSU), the Ross teenager won an individual bronze in the 60 shot Grand Prix event, a mixed doubles bronze with teammate Anmol Bhargava and a third bronze in the junior men’s team event with Luke O’Driscoll and Callum Davis, all in his first international competition.
Charlie currently trains in the Team GB Development Pathway run by British Shooting after he was talent spotted by UK Sport’s Find Your Greatness campaign in 2024/5 and was recently profiled in On Target magazine under their Bright Futures series.
Locally, Charlie, who is also a member of the town’s tennis and cricket clubs, refines his skills with the Ross on Wye Target Shooting Club, where he has been welcomed and supported by the members there.
“It’s definitely been a challenge coming from movement-based sports like tennis and cricket,
“I’m learning to master my inner calm, keep my heart rate steady, and wait for the right shot.”
Away from the firing line, Charlie is also a dedicated adventure-fundraiser and with his dad, Tony, has raised thousands for charity over the last few years by completing ambitious challenges - including climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, trekking the Sumatran Jungle and the Sahara Desert.
He is also an entrepreneur, starting his own coffee, hot chocolate, and milkshake business, Tempting, at just 17.
And to celebrate his medal haul, Charlie is introducing The Hot Shot (a Sanger shot) to the Tempting menu.
