Three MonRoss Trailblazers reached for the skies by taking part in the Blorenge Fell Race near Abergavenny on Saturday.

More than 90 runners were up to the challenge of a testing 485m ascent on a 5.9k course, including Gavin Jones, Dan Sandford and Andrew Stephens.

Starting and finishing at Llanfoist Village Hall, Wyndham Turner of local Black Mountains Club Mynydd Du followed up second in the recent Sugar Loaf race with victory this time, finishing nearly three minutes clear in 34mins 57secs.

Gavin, pictured right, was first MonRoss runner home in 12th, covering the course in 39.38.

Dan was just two places behind in 40.50 and was second fastest over-40 runner to the man one place and 34 seconds in front, Chris Medcalf of San Domenico RC.

And Andrew came home 32nd and sixth in over-40s in 46.01.

Mynyddwyr de Cymru Fell Club’s Katie Ironside was fastest woman, crossing 18th overall in 41.26.

At Ross-on-Wye parkrun on Saturday, club member Rob Nicholls was first home in 18.47, with Steve Rooke second in 20.35 and Neil Grinnell third in 21.19.

Trailblazer Sam Harness was fifth in 22.14, and club mate Gary Griffiths 11th in 24.38.

Fastest woman was Louise Hutchinson in 15th in 25.34.

Over the border at Chippenham Playing Fields parkrun, Trailblazer Sophie Williams ran the 5km course in 26.08.
