Over the last 10 weeks, Monross coaches Vanessa Ball, Bobby Prichard, and Gavin Jones have been running weekly Couch to 5k sessions on a Monday evening from the Hope and Anchor.

Unlike the usual approach to running, these have been structured to include a full body warm up, a main session, developmental and maintenance type stretches, plus guidance for the week and motivational techniques to help keep the participants focused.

On Sunday, September 2nd, the Monross Couch to 5k group, also known as the ‘Freaky Feet Club’ took on the Ross 5k. This is part of the Ross 10k series of races held down by the Rowing club, to raise money for Acorns children’s charity.

The 5k event took runners out of the field next to the Rowing club and along the river for one and a half miles. After running up a hill through a field, the runners made their way back to the finishing line.

Sarah Cosker, Alison Fletcher, Elaine Sandford, Ruth Blandford, Milly Boylan, Keely Smith, Donna Marfell, and Nicola Rylatt completed the course, with some outstanding performances. Following the event the group celebrated with lunch at the Royal Hotel.

The next course the Monross coaching team will be running is the 5-10k; this will start in the autumn and will run for nine weeks, with the aim to complete a 10k event at the end.

In the meantime, the ‘Freaky Feet Club’ will continue with their social jogs. All abilities are welcome on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm from the Hope and Anchor car park.
