Two penalties from Callum Trotman earned Ross Juniors men a 2-2 draw at home to high-flying Bream 2nds on Saturday.

A scrappy second v third North Gloucestershire Division 2 clash saw lots of fouls breaking the game up and not much football being played.

Ross went 1-0 down midway through the first half, but responded to level on the stroke of half-time when Florin Crainic was fouled in the box and Trotman converted for 1-1 at the break.

Niggling tackles were to the fore again after half-time, with Ross awarded a second penalty when Crainic was again brought down. Trotman was spot on again to make it 2-1, but Juniors were then reduced to ten men when Nathan Young was sent off.

Ross still seemed the side wanting to go on and win the game, but a cross-cum-shot saw Bream get their second of the game and it finished honours even 2-2.

Both teams leap-frogged previous table-toppers Lydbrook 2nds, who didn’t have a league game, but local rivals Longhope jumped above both with a 3-1 home win over Ruardean Hill Rangers A, Callum Love and Ben Moss both on the score sheet.

Newent Town lost out 1-0 at Bourton Rovers in Hellenic Division 1, with Saul Thomas seeing red in stoppage time for a second bookable offence, the ref pointing to the touchline for an alleged dive in the box.

Tyler Weir went close to putting the Daffs in front four minutes in with a 20-yarder that just went over the bar, before a Bourton free-kick from 25 yards tested Newent keeper Kyran Edwards. With both sides struggling with a boggy pitch, a corner from Bourton was well saved by Edwards in the 35th minute.

But Thomas forced a great save from the Bourton keeper two minutes nefore half-time, with the follow up flashing wide.

Josh Coakley with a driving effort was just wide of the right hand post after good build up play after the restart.

But it was Bourton who broke the deadlock on 68 minutes, when a well-worked cross was headed in from close range at the back post for a 1-0 lead.

Newent huffed and puffed but ultimately frustration spilled over as the Daffs finished a man and 1-0 down.

Newent’s Development team also suffered in the Bateman Sports Challenge Cup, going down 7-0 at home to Bishops Cleeve Development.

Ruardean Hill Rangers beat third-placed Forest visitors Broadwell Amateurs 1-0 in a Gloucestershire County League derby, Charley Mason scoring the only goal from the penalty spot five minutes from time to lift them to seventh.

It was Mason who went closest in the first half, a 35-yard free kick on 40 minutes forcing the Broadwell keeper to tip over, before his header from the resulting corner was then scrambled away.

But with the clock ticking down to full-time, Josh Sladen was fouled in the box and Mason struck the kick straight down the middle for a 1-0 win.

Huntley came from 2-1 down at half-time to beat visitors Howle Hill 4-3 in a North Gloucestershire Premier Division local derby. A Lee James brace and one each from William Freeman and Alfie Sheppard secured the three points, with Chris Baverstock, Kristian Milnes and Joe Thomas scoring for Hill.

Lydbrook Athletic were in Gloucestershire Junior Cup action away to Stroud outfit Randwick and fought out a 4-4 draw before going through 3-1 on penalties.

Ruardean Hill Rangers 2nds also made it through, albeit after seeing a 4-0 half-time lead pegged back to 4-3 at Bream Amateurs, while Mitcheldean won 2-1 at home to Whitecroft 2nds in the Intermediate Cup

Lydbrook 2nds were 4-2 home winners in NG Division 2 over Mushet & Coalway 2nds, but their A side were humbled 6-0 away to Sling in Division 3.

A Josh Street hat-trick helped 3 table-toppers Ruardean United to a 4-2 win away to second-placed Rank Outsiders 2nds, Wes Hathaway scoring the other goal.

And Mitcheldean 2nds beat hosts Blakeney 2nds 4-0 to go third.
