On Friday June 21st through to Sunday June 23rd, Ross Rowing Club continued what's turning out to be a fantastic summer for the club. Ross women were competing at the prestigious Henley Women's Regatta. This event is held on the iconic Henley course over 1500 metres. The club had a J16 crew entered in qualifying for the first time and several of its Junior alumni were rowing for their respective universities.
The club also had Morgan Baynham-Williams coxing the Great Britain under 23 squad in Elite eights.
The Club went into the event on the back of a successful weekend at the Coronation Regatta, several winning performances at British Masters Rowing Championships, and golds at the prestigious Junior Inter-regional Regatta in May.
The junior quad of Catrin Morris, Jess Crossman, Hazel Thomas, and Molly Phillips had been preparing hard and had an 8am time trial on Saturday in order to gain entry into the full regatta. The crew executed their race plan to the letter and there were shouts of great joy when the qualifying crews were announced later that morning. For their efforts the Ross girls had earned themselves a first round race against York City at 12:16.
In the race itself the crew performed fantastically well, keeping the York crew in check for the first 850 metres. As the boats passed the enclosure though the windy conditions favoured the more robust crew from York. The valiant Ross girls kept pushing hard, however it was not to be their day. The verdict was a win for York City by 2 lengths.
