Ross Cricket Club visited Ledbury CC as part of both clubs 175th anniversary seasons. Geoff Fletcher did a fantastic job to prepare the ground for play in such difficult weather conditions and Ross had no hesitation in inviting their hosts to bat first in a two innings 40 plus 20 overs match.

In the first 40 overs before lunch Ledbury found it difficult to score, faced by steady bowling and good ground fielding. Top scorers, James Brighton (61) and Maurice Embrey (47) gave the innings some impetus and the innings closed on 152 for 5 with Dan Barnard (6-2-9-2) the leading wicket taker.

Following an excellent lunch Ross replied with 171 for 6 in their 40 overs. Jason Belcher (8-0-30-3) was the leading wicket taker for the home team and Dave Long (78) and Jack Evans (57) led the way for Ross.

After a glorious tea, Ledbury set to work to make up the 19 run, first innings deficit with some big hitting. The scoring rate was at six an over, but was pegged back at regular intervals by a steady fall of wickets and when Nick Tregaskes took three wickets in six balls, it strangled the middle of the innings.

James Tiffen (53*) and Ed Cinderey (23*) had the best batting conditions of the day to secure a ten wicket victory with four overs to spare.

Ross would like to thank everybody at Ledbury CC who contributed to such a fantastic day of cricket and they are all looking forward to the return match which takes place on Sunday, July 22nd.
