Ross-on-Wye co-driver, Paul Morris, co-drove Damian Cole to yet another asphalt victory in the Fiesta WRC on last weekend’s Mewla Rally, held in difficult conditions on the Epynt military ranges.
Morris, who is also co-driving for Simon Tysoe in the British Historic Championship, is in striking distance of securing two national titles.
The Mewla Rally offered 11 tests totalling some 70 miles for the ninety crews who assembled at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, and was the latest round of the MSA Asphalt series.
Over the opening loop Cole was involved in a battle with his championship rival, Steve Simpson, with heavy rain making tyre choice extremely difficult, with some stages having both dry and wet tarmac.
“Tyre choice is a total lottery, but so far we’ve been right, a wrong choice can cost you so much time,” said Morris.
Gradually the Abergavenny businessman opened up a lead over his rivals after every stage to secure a comfortable victory over Simpson. One more victory will secure him the title.
“Damian drove well in awful conditions at times, we got the tyre choice spot on, and the car ran faultlessly, which is a credit to Weaver Motorsport,” said the delighted co-driver.
