Goodrich Ladies ‘C’hasers travelled to the other side of Hereford on Sunday, 10th March, to take on Bodenham Ladies in Division 5 West of the Hereford and Worcester Winter league. Playing in challenging conditions, very cold and gusting winds, first pair Katie Hunt and Kayla Coopey dropped the first set 2-6 against the Bodenham first pair, but then adjusted their game to compensate for the conditions and took the next two sets 6-3/7-6. The ‘C’hasers second pair, Carolyn Riddell and Karen Hawley, got into their stride very quickly and took their first rubber 6-1/6-4.

After the change-over and now playing the Bodenham second pair, Katie and Kayla, not wishing to spend too much time battling the elements, took their second rubber in straight sets, with a very convincing 6-1/6-1 victory. Meanwhile Carolyn and Karen were struggling to compete against the Bodenham first pair, and saw the first set slip away from them, 3-6. Unfortunately Karen took a tumble on the tarmac surface and banged her head so was unable to continue playing, and the rubber went to Bodenham. However the ‘C’hasers were the overall winners taking three of the four rubbers. This puts them in second place in the division with one more match to play which will take place on Saturday, 16th March, against Hereford Whitecross ‘A’, who are in fourth place. Karen is making a good recovery and have had the ‘thumbs up’ from her.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
