ON a very blustery Sunday morning on October 22nd, Goodrich Ladies ’A’ Team played their first Winter league match in Division 3, having won promotion last year against Manor Park ’B’.

The first couple, Cheryl Mordecai and Stephanie Howell quickly wrapped up their first rubber 6-0 and 6-1 and retired to the pavilion to enjoy some tasty treats.

The second couple, Bonnie Palmer and Wendy Jenkins, preferring to play more tennis, played three sets but still came out on top, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Unfortunately one of the Manor Park players injured herself and could not continue, which meant that Cheryl and Stephanie had a bye in their second rubber.

As the wind got worse and the ball played tricks, Bonnie and Wendy struggled against the conditions and went down 2-6, 2-6 in their second rubber, but overall the team won 4 points to 1, a good start to their Winter campaign.
