Ross-on-Wye CC Second XI entertained second placed Avoncroft on Saturday 24th August at The Park and produced a very good performance to gain a winning draw.

Ross lost the toss on a slow, low wicket but made a steady start through Andrew Stacey and Ben Element. Stacey was first to go but when Dave Long came to the crease he immediately set about increasing the run rate. The main partnership of the innings came about when skipper, Stuart Tucker, joined Long as they recorded close to a hundred stand for the third wicket.

Long was eventually out for a quick scoring 55 off the bowling of leg spinner Alex Brunt.

Ross then struggled against Brunt as they lost four quick wickets and it wasn't until Henry Mayell came in at number 9 to join Tucker that the innings regained momentum.

With some great attacking batting from Mayell, Ross posted 210 with Tucker unbeaten on 66 and Mayell on 29. Read full match report in this week's Gazette.
