The Wallingford Long Distance Sculls, on Sunday, September 30th, attracted world class scullers and the top clubs from around the country.
The winding 4250m course represented the first challenge of the season for the juniors of Ross Rowing Club and was a chance for the club to lay down a marker for the coming months. And they did exactly that! Lara Banks-Martin put in a stunning performance, giving her all to take first place by 9 seconds in the women’s J17 event, and placing herself in contention for a place in assessment events to row for Great Britain. The double of Cam Roberts and Ben Clatworthy had an equally convincing win in their J16 event. Most of the Ross junior entries came inside the top three within their events. Of note, the boys’ J15 quad and J15 double both came second in their events. With Elic Wales and Oliver Billington making up the crews of both these boats, they’re certainly ones to watch for the season ahead.
