PASSERSBY sprang to the rescue on Friday morning, June 24th, when a mother duck and her nine ducklings waddled precariously through traffic on Gloucester road. However, panic ensued and three of our feathery friends fell through the grill outside the Victorian Church.
Staff at Herring Shoes provided refuge for some of the duck family, while firecrews were called to rescue the others. With the aid of ropes, ladders and of course, a net, the ducklings were soon reunited with the rest of their family. Kind-hearted though these attempts were, a local vet has advised that in future the ducks should be left alone and allowed to make their own way wherever they are headed.
