A pet dog had to be given oxygen after it was rescued from a house fire at Tudor Rise, Ross-on-Wye. And the family who live there, a couple with two small children, are now looking for accommodation to rent after their property was badly affected. Their home is going to be uninhabitable for about five to six months following the incident.
The home owner shared the report of the fire, published by the Ross Gazette online, to ask if anyone knew of any properties available for rent. She was overwhelmed by the offers of help which came in from many members of the community. She said: “Honestly, we do really appreciate all your messages of support and offers of donations, we are insured and all our contents will be replaced...we are amazed by the response, but we are very lucky, have a very supportive family and we have insurance, a massive thank you for all the messages.”
Two fire engines from Ross attended and used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
An adult female and a child were also at the two-storey house and a Red Cross Support Vehicle attended to give assistance at the request of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
Clare King, duty manager for emergency response for the British Red Cross in Herefordshire, said: “Our highly trained specialist volunteers provided practical and emotional support to one adult and one young child on Wednesday afternoon following a house fire.
“We provided clothing and refreshments and the use of a phone. We deployed two volunteers and one emergency response vehicle.”
The Red Cross emergency response service provides comfort and practical support to people affected by fires, floods and traffic accidents.
A fire investigation has been opened into the incident which took place on Wednesday, November 30th.
