Whispering Across Centuries is an art project featuring St Michael’s and All Angels Church, an English Heritage Grade II* listed building in Brampton Abbotts, a settlement two miles north of Ross-on-Wye, one of many jewels in the crown of our local heritage and countryside.

The story it could “whisper” to us, from its Norman roots in the 11th century to its current closed status and regeneration project would be second to none.

Inspired by this wealth of history and the stories it could tell, during 2018, the organisers Darren Williams and John Sherahilo, artists and residents of Brampton Abbotts invited a number of individuals and groups to visit the church to produce a personal artistic response to the church. This travelling collective exhibition is intended to raise awareness of its closure and regeneration while celebrating its place in the community and wider landscape.

The project was first exhibited at Hereford Cathedral and is now at St Mary’s Church, Ross, until June 29th and it is hoped to finish with a special display for one day at Brampton Abbotts Church itself on Saturday, July 6th, which will be a fitting closure to the project.

There is a wide range of works on show and they are all for sale, and each artist has offered a percentage towards the restoration project.
