The 'knock-on effect' is the indirect result of an action or decision and one young cancer patient, Rosie Kilburn is adamant that the knock-on effect of her illness will be better care and understanding for those who live with or care about someone with cancer.

Rosie has set up an art auction to fund her business venture, Knock-on, a range of T-shirts which get across the message that people with cancer are not just sufferers they are survivors.

Rosie is looking for local artists to donate their work for the auction on July 3rd.

Rosie has been suffering with a rare form of Liver Cancer Hepatocellular Fibrolamellar Carcinoma since February 2008. She was due to be the first patient at Birmingham QE to receive a live liver donor transplant but recent complications due to lung cancer put a stop to the treatment.

She is currently working towards four AS levels at Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre.

Rosie is adamant that she is not a sufferer of cancer but a survivor. Her aim is to develop a series of T-shirts which tackle this issue, raising the perception of cancer in young people. Her teacher at Newent Community School, Miss Smith said: "When Rosie approached me about the idea of an art auction I knew she was onto a winner. She is inspiring and has plenty of creative thoughts for us all.

"This is one of the most worthwhile things I have had the pleasure of being involved in...so if you are an artist or you know others who are artists help a great cause, be part of something that will change people's lives and spread the word."

Rosie has also started a blog about her experiences. Her blog is a personal journey of treatment, emotion and information, which she hopes will support cancer patients and give an insight into what it is like living with the condition.

Rosie is running her campaign from an art room in her school. It has become a hub for sharing ideas, working with local and regional press as well as keeping the blog and facebook group informed of her progress. Her close friends are helping to manage advertising and marketing, while her family is the backbone to the whole project.

If you have a piece of art which you could donate or if you are an artist and could produce a work of art for Rosie's auction contact the school on 01531 820550.
