The Saracens Head Inn at Symonds Yat East has welcomed a fantastic piece of artwork which has lit up one of their dining rooms. The artwork, which has been painted straight onto the main wall at the back of the room, was painted by local artist, Jan Thompson.
Her palette is inspired by her visions and experiences of the past and present, as well as travel. She eternally observes the natural and man made environment, which leads to an original infusion of colour, texture and emotion within her highly original and impressive paintings.
The aim was for Jan to create a warm and attractive feature wall, in her style and in keeping with the area, and consulting with owners, Pete and Chris Rollinson, she prepared the room.
The preparations took Jan a week to complete, sorting the difficult shapes and views and making actual sized painting drafts on loose canvas roll. Jan told the Ross Gazette how it was important for her to create depth in the painting.
The landscape, which has been using mostly acrylic paint, is called ‘the Mystical Wye’ and features areas like the River Wye, Ross-on-Wye and Hereford, and also specific places like the Saracens Head Inn itself.
