Gazette reader Jill Ireland has long been using her own bags for shopping, even attaching bags to key rings and purses so that she always has a spare bag to use when she is shopping.

In Wales a charge of 5p has been levied for some time to help reduce the number of plastic bags used but Jill said 'England is dragging its heels over this issue.

She also thinks that simply charging for plastic bags is not doing enough about the problem. She would like them banned because of the environmental damage they do.

She uses the plastic bag stating 'Wasteful and Deadly' as her avatar because she believes they are causing another environmental disaster. She said they are a danger to wildlife and the toxic particles could enter the food chain.

She said the number of plastic bags in use every day is astronomical. She would really like to see Ross become a plastic bag-free zone to stop them altogether.

Do other readers agree that more should be done to discourage the use of plastic bags. Vote in the Ross Gazette online poll or comment on our Facebook page.
