A patient at Alton Street Surgery, Yvonne Walsh, who was born in the same week as the NHS, was given the honour of cutting the birthday cake at the special Strawberry Tea party held at Ross Community Hospital on Saturday, July 7th.

Members of the League of Friends were joined by members of staff at the hospital and Alton Street Surgery for the special celebration marking the 70th anniversary of the NHS.

The Ross Choristers performed a medley of popular songs and led the singing of Happy Birthday.

Dr Lennane thanked everyone for supporting the event and said he was grateful to work alongside such amazing people. He said he had been working for the NHS since he was 18 and it is wonderful to know then, and now, that when you are ill you don’t have to worry about paying for the service.
