SINCE the 1950s, Bishopswood Village Hall has stood as a vital centre for community life, sustained by the dedication of its trustees and volunteers.

The 'New' Village Hall, opened in October 2000, replacing the original village hall on the other side of the road, which was well used despite its decrepitude.

The new facility continues to serve as a lively hub for gatherings, events, and local initiatives.

During October, the hall celebrated its 25th anniversary with a series of special events starting with a special Café Bishopswood.

This was followed by a 'Friends' evening brought together past and present trustees, regular hirers, and volunteers.

Guests enjoyed a birthday cake crafted and decorated by two trustees, and a raffle.

The evening concluded with a torchlit walk to the canoe launch at Kerne Bridge, followed by a striking aerial drone photograph capturing attendees forming the number '25' in the hall's car park.

Saturday night was a community party open to all locals, featuring music spanning from the millennium to 2025 and lively dancing.

Sunday's afternoon tea offered finger sandwiches, savouries, cakes, and scones served on fine bone china.

Pianist Peter Gill provided entertainment as guests mingled and reminisced with long-time supporters and sponsors.

Historical displays showcased the hall's journey over the past 25 years, including artefacts from its construction and memorable events.

A memory tree featured leaves bearing the names of trustees to date alongside cherished event memories, with visitors invited to contribute their own.

These exhibits and decorations will remain on display throughout October, inviting the wider community to share in the celebration.

Thanks must go to the trustees and volunteers who continue to be the backbone of the hall, tirelessly maintaining and managing this cherished community space.

Their efforts ensure the hall remains a welcoming venue for leisure, education, and social activities, supporting local groups and fostering a strong sense of community spirit.
