A survey conducted by the charity Citizens Advice has shown that most adults would be willing to make adjustments in their life to help Britain become carbon-neutral by 2050.

In June 2019, the British government announced a new plan to cut greenhouse emissions to almost zero by the year 2050, becoming the first major nation to propose such a target.

Since the plan was announced, the government has advised members of the public that to meet such a target changes such as switching to electric vehicles and upgrading heating systems may be necessary.

82% of the 2,002 adults surveyed by Citizens Advice said they backed the commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.

Last year Herefordshire Council announced that they had exceeded their target carbon reduction of 40% two years early with a 2018/19 Greenhouse Gas Report showing the Council had delivered a 43% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Such a reduction came about through a number of ‘invest to save’ projects including LED lighting, greener vehicles and wider energy efficiency projects.

The findings have led to the council aspiring to become carbon neutral by 2030.
