Dear Editor,

I have been wondering, since last Wednesday, whether I should laugh or cry at your reader’s suggestion, in the Ross Gazette dated August 12th 2015, that “perhaps our councillors should be burned at the stake.” Both, probably.

Another - possibly the best - solution is to ignore it and dismiss it as jest. Having been in Education for over 20 years, I am rather accustomed to spells - both good and bad - being cast upon me.

As much as I abhor dignifying this letter with any sort of comment, I would be most grateful if I could please be permitted to remind your reader that most of us are but Town - not County - Councillors. This means that we are not paid, struggle to be listened to, do not have the powers some credit us with BUT are fighting very hard for a town we all love.

I would also like to remind your reader - who is obviously a person of culture since they attend the library - that, under some latitudes, human beings do, effectively, get burned alive. What utter fun! Anyone else for physical violence in jest?

Cllr Jo Jennings
