The Ross-on-Wye branch of the NatWest bank has escaped the latest rounds of branch closures.

A spokesperson for the bank explained that the Monmouth branch will be closing on October 3rd, 2017 and the nearest branch is in Ross-on-Wye, which is 10.6 miles away. This date has been extended for six months from the original plan to close in response to feedback from local people who asked for more time to make alternative banking arrangements.

The spokesperson said that the way people bank with NatWest has changed radically over the last few years. Between 2010 and 2015, mobile and online transactions have increased by over 400% and mobile transactions alone have increased by 1,350%. Since 2011 the number of transactions in the Monmouth branch decline by 37%.

Letters have been sent to customers affected by the closure, and they are paying particular attention to their vulnerable and regular branch customers.
