Madam, I am writing regarding the strange behaviour of Herefordshire Council as regards their policy on the decoration of walls and buildings alongside paths and passageways in Ross.
Recently 'artists' have been commissioned to paint murals on walls by the stream near to Ross Swimming Pool. This has been much to the delight of everyone as it has cheered up one of the dismal areas of the town.
I came to live in Ross just over seven years ago and was also delighted by the mural that was on the walls of the alleyway, School Lane, between Cantilupe Road and Morrisons. I was told someone had been commissioned to do the decorations and I though it showed forward thinking on their part.
The paintings gave a cheery, colourful view and it has remained so until recently.
The paintings have never been vandalised by extraneous, crude graffiti as other undecorated walls nearby had been.
However recently the Council has paid for a four or five strong team to remove it and paint the walls white. Why? It is a waste of money and effort and leaves me and others waiting to see how long it is before this white expanse is covered by crude graffiti either painted on or scratched in.
