Madam, Through the pages of your newspaper we learned that the Chestnuts was about to close. This was only approximately two weeks ago and already people are being transferred to other homes as far away as Birmingham. What's going on?
Why is the Chestnuts being CLOSED when there is a desperate need for it. The residents and staff are like a close-knit family and it is heartbreaking to witness the unit being torn apart.
Why have we not been consulted? Is it all down to loss of government funding? Surely we can do something before it is too late.
The Chestnuts is a home totally suited to caring for the elderly and over the years money has been spent keeping it up to date with all the, sometimes ridiculous and costly, health and safety regulations.
The building is ideal for the purpose in an excellent position and very much needed for our aging population. Is it now to be sold to some developer to be knocked down and turned into high price housing?
Where are our councillors? Where is our MP? Why is no one doing anything? Is it too late for the people of Ross to stand together and stop this useless and uncaring action? The residents and staff are all heartbroken. Friendships have been made that have lasted years and now with them being removed to any place that has a vacancy they are being separated by miles. Don't the powers that be realise that in effect they are EVICTING them from their HOME?
Come on everyone. Let stand together and fight this ridiculous decision and show the government the error of their ways.
Sandie and Howard Cotterell, Ross
