On July 2nd Ross First XI travelled to Claverley in Shropshire. Winning the toss, skipper S Mair asked Claverley to bat first. After three tight overs C Mair claimed his first wicket of the day when Claverley opener N Khan chipped the ball to J Tiffen to take a good catch. Ross only had to wait four more balls before claiming their next wicket when H Porter had S Omar well caught by S Mair to leave Claverley at 15 for 2. Claverley settled down to rebuild their innings with a partnership between Choudhary and Mills. Until C Mair had Choudhary (45) caught by H King at Long on. Form batsman K Mahmood, was the next Claverley batsman to be sent back to the pavilion when J Evans produced an excellent catch off J Tiffen's bowling. Four overs later a brilliant piece of ground fielding by H Porter had R Mills (45) run out. Ross continued to take regular wickets with A Tingle having A Iqbal (20) caught by H King. M Porter was introduced into the bowling attack and he dispatched A Jonson (8), A Barnes (caught C Mair) and M Edwards (12) caught, S Mair to finish on (12-3-37-3). It was left to C Mair to take the final wicket when he clean bowled Edwards (17) to finish with figures of (7-1-38-3). Claverley were all out for 174.
After the tea interval, Ross openers J Evans and J Tiffen batted with composure to chase down the Claverley target. After 11 overs Jack and James built a partnership of 50. The 100 landmark came in the 19th over, J Evans was the first to reach 50 with a straight drive for 4. Shortly afterwards James achieved 50 too. Showing great maturity, the pair attained their 150 partnership in the 25th over. Both batsman were keen to stay at the crease to hit the winning runs. It was left to Evans to pull a ball to the mid wicket boundary for 4. J Evans (80*) and J Tiffen (74*) had built a partnership of 177 for Ross to win by ten wickets.
