The Clerk reported at the Town Council meeting on Monday, January 13th, that she had received notification from the Herefordshire Council parking team about a proposed change in the way they charge parking for those who are charging their electric vehicles.
Herefordshire Council said it was an important motion for Councillors “committed to the environment”. The idea was initially to allow drivers to stop briefly, charge their vehicle, and continue on their journey. Herefordshire Council proposed that electric cars at Council owned car parks could have a free 30 minutes to allow for charging.
In Red Meadow Car Park for example, those currently using electric vehicles have to pay under the normal guidelines, which does not permit any free stay for any motorist.
The Clerk said: “Herefordshire Council said it’s appropriate for the Council to incentivise electric vehicle use and send the right message. After 30 minutes, parking charges will apply as usual.
“There is no information yet about when this may be introduced.”
