HEREFORDSHIRE Council has issued advice as the region faces heavy rainfall from Storm Claudia.
It started raining late last night and is expected to continue into the weekend, with an Amber warning issued for Friday 14 November, from midday to midnight, forecasting heavy rain that could lead to flooding and significant disruption.
The council has liaised with the Met Office and Environment Agency to understand the impact of the storm on the county.
River levels are expected to rise, and further alerts are anticipated for highways and surface water.
The Environment Agency will deploy flood defences along the River Wye and continue clearing debris from Hereford’s Old Bridge, which was closed from 10pm last night (Thursday 13 November).
The council is deploying extra staff across the county for the whole of the weekend, as they expect highways to be affected.
A spokesperson said: “We are reminding people not to drive through floodwater and past road closed signs as there may be hidden dangers. Driving through floodwater can also impact on surrounding properties.”
Residents and businesses in flood-prone areas are urged to stay informed and take precautions. Guidance on preparing for flooding and what to do if affected is available at: https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/community/flooding/prepare-for-a-flood/
