Temporary speed indicator devises, SIDs, could make a real difference to road safety in Ross, Councillors at the Town Council meeting agreed on Monday. Cllr Richard Mayo said:?“They are an excellent way to slow down traffic and a very visual way to remind drivers to be aware of their speeds.”
The Councillors had been asked to add the cost of providing four SIDs for various locations in Ross to their budget for next year. Councillor Roberts explained that although the members of the Planning and Development Committee had considered four locations, their research indicated that it was better to have one device and rotate it across the sites. The four locations are Chase View, Archenfield Road, Ledbury Road and Walford Road.
Cllr Roberts said that keeping one SID in the same place long term ceases to be effective. She added that although it would cost less to purchase one, rather than four, the installation costs would need to be considered.
Councillor Nigel Gibbs queried whether they would be cost effective as it had been suggested that only two sites would benefit from drivers reducing their speed. Councillor Roberts said that there is strong public concern about the speeding at all four sites. Councillor David Ravenscroft added:?“This could save a life or serious injury.”
It was agreed that the Planning Committee should come up with a budget to be approved in November.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
