Madam, I read with horror the plans to put the TIC into the Heritage Centre in the paper last week. Who are these people who make such a decision to ruin one of the few excellent tourist attractions in this town? Looking back through my recollections of reports on moving the TIC at the beginning of the year I believe it was reported that they have to consider putting them into a council owned building to save money. This was why Labels was turned down.

What is wrong with the Library? This is being completely rebuilt and surely this would have been an ideal opportunity to make space for them there. What about the Youth Cluh in Hill Street - is that not council owned? I understand it is lying empty most of the time and is a very central place with easy access from all parts of the town. It is near the buses as well as Broad Street and Gloucester Road and the Maltings.

There is a saying if it isn't broke don't try to mend it. The Heritage Centre as it is, does so much for the town. They have superb local exhibitions which I should imagine will have to go. The children's and adults' workshops are always well supported and they do a variety of things, which are educational as well as being fun. The school children visit in groups to learn about their local heritage. Many the time I have been in there to find lots of young people having great fun. I sometimes wish I had the courage to revert to my childhood and join them. There is always something for all ages and interests and these most surely will be lost.

The library has its own children's activities so would they need any more, particularly the messy ones they seem to be able to run very efficiently at the Market House.

Where will the adult workshops go to? I do hope this silly idea will be stopped and that our Heritage Centre will be left to continue to be as diverse and as popular as it is today.

I don't think the local councillors have made a very popular decision this time and time will tell when they arc next asking to be elected again, I for one will certainly be thinking twice about electing people who do not ask me what I want on this matter.
