Dear Editor,

My elderly mother, who lives in Ross-on-Wye, was scammed earlier this year by one of these young men who come to the door selling dusters etc and this is being investigated by the police.

The charity’ was St Anne’s and when I checked their website they had a clear message about bogus callers stating that they NEVER collect door to door. Obviously my advice is never buy from these callers. The police would also like to know when they are in the area, telephone on 101.

Name and address supplied

P.S. I would also recommend people to be very wary of charity post, some of this can be scams (especially when offering big cash prizes) and once you start replying you get inundated with letters. It is so easy to give to your charities of choice, many of whom have shops locally.
