Captain James Aubrey, assistant equerry to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, recently returned to his old school in Ross-on-Wye.

The former John Kyrle High School pupil was asked to represent the Duke at the Remembrance Service in London last November, laying a wreath on his behalf at the cenotaph.

Captain Aubrey, who joined the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 2012, told the Ross Gazette: “It was great to be invited back to John Kyrle High School after leaving in 2007. Despite the time that has passed, the school felt very familiar and after a quick tour it was great to see the investment that has gone into the sports and mathematics departments.

“I would like to thank headteacher, Mr Nigel Griffiths and assistant headteacher (and my former Head of Year), Mr Mark Croad, for their warm welcome and look forward to visiting the school again soon.”

Captain Aubrey will be returning to JKHS in the near future to deliver an assembly during which he will share his story with students.

He will also talk with students interested in pursuing a career in the armed forces.
