Madam, A few weeks ago some of our Liberal town council representatives (Councillor Chris Bartrum and Councillor Caroline Utting) publically stated their full support for the opening of a new Tesco store in Ross. This, despite the fact that the local trade association (ART) objected to it along with the majority of those who wrote directly to planning. One of these town councillors happens to be ART secretary and the other also holds a position of power with the County Council. If our councillors are supposed to be working to serve the best interests of the town, why are they not listening to what people are saying? Tesco has just declared a profit warning taking its shares to an 11 year low. As Kamal Ahmed (BBC) says: "By trying to be all things to all people, Tesco is in danger of becoming not quite enough for nowhere near enough people... the UK's biggest retailer has lost its way..". the whole project is doomed to fail despite the so called 'enhancements' being offered by Tesco. So there we have it: local councillors who don't represent the majority views whilst at the same time encouraging a floundering behemoth to permanently damage this lovely town. An exact echo of what our coalition government is doing when dealing with the monstrous diktats from the unelected EU. Is it a Liberal thing? Andrew Meek, Ross Herefordshire, HR9 7EA
