THE Ross Penyard Singers have changed their name and are now known as the Ross-on-Wye Singers.

This change was agreed after voting by the whole choir membership, as the singers no longer have a direct connection to Penyard, and preferred the connection to the river.

The Ross-on-Wye Singers will be starting their new term in September, when they will be continuing rehearsals for their concert, ‘A choral prayer for peace’, to be held on Saturday, November 28 at St Mary’s Church.

This will feature the music of Karl Jenkins amongst others, and in particular the Choral Suite from ‘The Armed Man’, as well as his ‘Adiemus’.

The Singers will be holding an open evening on Wednesday, September 9, when they will be welcoming anybody who is thinking of joining the choir.

The choir welcomes both experienced singers and those who are totally new to singing, or who haven’t sung for a while.

The event will be held at St Mary’s Church Hall (opposite the church) between 7pm and 9pm where the singers will be having a go at singing the ‘Adiemus’, as well as the ‘Agnus Dei’ from ‘The Armed Man’.

To join the choir you do not need to be able to read music, and no auditions are held to join the choir – just go along and have a go.

If you are planning to attend the open evening, please email [email protected] so that the choir can make sure that they have enough music available.

There is no charge for the evening. Our normal rehearsals are also held on Wednesdays at the hall at the same time, with breaks during the school holidays.

The choir is a very friendly group of people, and perform at community events such as the Ross Christmas Fair as well as organising social events for members.
