THE dancers from Jive by the Wye used their end of term summer social event to raise funds for the Pen Y Bryn animal sanctuary.

The dancers, whose lessons are held at Bishopswood Village Hall and at Llanfoist Village Hall in Abergavenny, came together for their end of term party and raised £190 for the local animal sanctuary.

Nicky Kyte one of the dance instructors said: “It was a great opportunity to highlight the great work that Peter Gill, Kelly Hennessey-Ford and all the volunteers do to save and protect the animals at the sanctuary and of course it’s very local to us.”

Jive by the Wye meets weekly at Bishopswood Village Hall for Jive and Lindyhop classes.

The swing jive is a modern partner dance, often known as Ceroc which combines elements of salsa, ballroom and tango. The more ambitious dancers can have a go at learning Lindyhop.

And with a flooring that is ideal for dancing, the group will be starting a brand-new term for would be jivers on Sunday, September 6 with lessons begining at 6.30pm for beginners and 8pm for Intermediates.

Meanwhile the classes for the Lindyhop class begin on Wednesday, September 9, at 7.30pm.

Both sets of dance classes are friendly and welcoming, and you can come on your own or with a partner and are ideal for anybody over the age of 16.

Dancing is a great way to keep fit, make friends and learn a new skill while at the same time having a lot of fun whilst doing so. It’s for everyone and there are lots of social events taking place locally, so that you can practice your new dance moves.
