THE committee behind the local Poppy Appeal are looking for volunteers to help manning the tables at the town’s two main supermarkets in the run up to this year’s Remembrance Day.

This year’s national Poppy Appeal will be launched on Thursday, October 22 and the committee are looking for volunteers to help in manning the tables promoting the appeal in Morrisons and Aldi.

A spokesman for the local committee said: “We’d be really grateful for any help in manning these stalls and raising money for this incredibly worthy cause.

“Please remember that your support, in whatever guise you choose, could be a lifeline for serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.

“We will be establishing our Poppy Appeal stalls in Morrisons over the period Thursday October 22 through to Saturday, November 7.

The dates for Aldi are slightly different with coverage in the supermarket from Saturday 24 October through to Saturday, November 7.”

Remembrance Day is Sunday, November 8 and Armistice Day is November 11.

Ross-on-Wye and District have proven to be, year on year, one of the most generous in the country.

Last year the greater Ross community raised well over £21,500 for the Poppy Appeal, and it’s hoped that this amount can even be improved on this year.

You do not have to be a member of the Royal British Legion to volunteer as the local committee are seeking volunteers to offer their services for the two hour slot of their choice to man these stalls and collect donations for the Poppy Appeal merchandise.

The Poppy Appeal supports thousands of serving and ex-serving personnel and their families and is a lifeline for those who are simply overwhelmed by the challenges associated with the cost-of-living crisis.
